If your child is a fan of Harry Potter, one of the best birthday gifts you could give them is a Harry Potter-themed birthday party! A party Molly Weasely would approve of. But throwing a wizarding party being a muggle is not an easy task. Not to worry, we are here to help you out!
Harry Potter themed birthday party Invites!
Just because you don’t have owls like Hedwig or Errol to deliver your invites doesn’t mean you have to take the muggle route. One of the easiest ways to achieve a Harry Potter-themed invite is through handwritten invitations rolled and tied with a ribbon. If you are a stickler for perfection like Hermione, you can draw owl faces on white balloons and tie them to the scrolls.
Unless your spouse is ready to dress up like hagrid and go banging on doors, these invites are the best way to go about it.
Magical decor
You don’t need magical blood in you to turn your simple abode into Hogwarts. Here are a few decor ideas that will transform your house into a magical birthday venue!
- Floating candles- Remember the first time the trio entered the Great Hall at Hogwarts? The hall adorned with floating candles made us wish we were there. Well, you can recreate the same at your house with some tealights, cardboard tubes and string. Paint the tubes white and stick tealight candles on it. Hang them up from the ceiling, dim the lights, and let the magic take over!
- House banners- What’s the great hall without its house banners? Make four banners for the 4 houses of Hogwarts- Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. If you are short on time to make the banners, you can just print them out and hang them up on the wall.
- Platform 9 ¾ entrance- As much as you love your children, I doubt you’d want to build a wall just for their birthday. After all, not all of us are blessed with a vault full of Gold Galleons. But there is a way to recreate the entrance wall to Hogwarts Express at King’s Cross with just a sheet and some paint. Cut the canvas sheet to the length of your door and paint it to look like a wall. Cut a slit vertically in the middle through which the guests can enter and hang it at the entrance of the door. Keep the door open unless you want to pull a Dobby!
Entertainment
Hosting a Triwizard tournament or a quidditch match is out of the question for us non-magic folk. But hey, we can still have fun with these creative Harry Potter-themed games and activities!
- Wanted photo booth- Remember the ‘Wanted’ poster of Sirius Black? Yea, thanks, Pettigrew! Create a simple ‘Wanted’ photo prop by cutting out the centre part of a sturdy cardboard sheet. Let the guests use the prop and make their best Sirius Black impression. You can mail them the photos after the party.
- Neville’s remembrall- Uh-oh! Looks like Neville forgot his remembrall again! Print out a picture of Neville Longbottom and a few pictures of a remembrall. Stick some double-sided tape on the back of the remembrall and let your blindfolded guests place it in Neville’s hand. Whoever manages to hand over the remembrall to Neville’s hand wins the game!
- DIY wand station- What’s a wizard/witch without their wand? Make a DIY magic wand station for all your guests where they make their own wands using chopsticks, clay, and paint.
