Dreaming away!

I know how frustrating it can be to be woken up in the night by your baby crying. Especially, when you were just drifting off to sleep. But having taken care of three babies myself, I have learnt a few tricks that can aid in getting your baby to sleep through the night. Whether you are a new parent just trying to get a good night of sleep or dealing with your baby’s sleep regression, here are three simple baby sleeping tips that can help your bundle of joy sleep through the night!

Have a busy morning

I love playtime!

One of the best ways to prepare your baby’s body and mind to rest at night is by ensuring they use up their energy in the day time. Keep the baby occupied in the morning by playing games or indulging in some sort of activity with the baby. This will tire the baby out and when bedtime approaches, they will be more than happy to rest. That doesn’t mean that you keep the baby up all night. I learnt that lesson a hard way when I kept my baby up all day and as a punishment, she stayed up crying all night. Schedule their naps so that their last nap for the day is at least 5 hours away from their bedtime. Trust me when I tell you that this is one of those baby sleeping tips that actually shows quick results!

The bedtime routine is a real thing

Is it sleepy time, momma?

I didn’t believe in the power of bedtime until I tried it on my youngest son. Establish a simple but solid bedtime routine once the baby crosses 3 months. A warm bath, slipping into comfy pyjama, and some soothing music in a dimly lit room will definitely help your baby relax and prepare for sleep. Once your baby slips into the routine it gets accustomed to the cues that let your baby know that playtime is over and it’s time to sleep now.

Feed the baby before bedtime

Let’s get you well fed!

Most of the time when babies wake up in the middle of the night, it’s because they are hungry. One way to ensure that your baby goes to sleep on a full stomach is by feeding the baby just before putting him/her to sleep. By that, I don’t mean feed him/her and transfer to the crib directly. But try and make sure that the last feeding session is just about 30 minutes away from her sleep time.

Some of these tips really helped me get a good night’s sleep while my babies slept through the night. Do you have any sleeping tips for newborn babies? Let us know in the comments below!
