My ‘crowning glory’ means the world to me! I believe people’s tresses are a medium to understand their personal style and therefore, I go out of my way to take care of mine.
The biggest challenge people face, especially in India, is hair fall! It is a troublesome issue which is primarily caused by nasty chemicals present in hair products, followed by environmental factors, poor dietary habits, and so on.
When I had a severe hair fall issue the previous year, instead of heading straight to the salon, I thought of trying out some home remedies to tackle the problem and provide long-term care to my hair!
The results shocked me to my very core (in a very pleasant way of course!). Where there was once a balding spot right at the centre of my scalp, I now have full growth and my hair hasn’t felt this healthy in a long long time. The natural remedies I used to treat my hair fall are simple to manoeuvre at home and can be put together in a jiffy!
Let’s begin…
Onion Juice
- Blend a small onion in a blender or mixer grinder.
- Take a clean cotton cloth and place the onion mash in this.
- Squeeze out the onion juice through the cloth and directly apply it on your scalp.
- Let it stay for at least 30 minutes.
- Shampoo thereafter.
- Try this remedy at least 3 times in a week and you’ll notice a visible difference in the quality of your hair.
Egg Mask
- Take two egg whites in a bowl.
- Add 1 tsp each of honey and olive oil.
- Beat it to make a thick paste.
- Apply this on your scalp and your hair tips.
- Keep it on for 20 minutes and then shampoo.
Curd
- Take half a bowl of curd and beat it.
- Apply it generously on your scalp and hair.
- Leave it on for at least 25 minutes.
- Rinse with a mild shampoo.
- Since curd is a natural conditioner, you won’t need to apply one after shampooing.
Liquorice root
- Take one cup of milk and add some saffron and ground liquorice root.
- Make a paste out of this.
- Apply this paste on your scalp thoroughly.
- Let it stay overnight.
- Rinse it in the morning using a mild shampoo.
- Do this twice a week.
Beetroot Juice
- Boil 10-11 beetroot leaves along with some henna leaves.
- Cool them down and grind into a paste.
- Apply the paste evenly through your scalp and let it stay for 15 minutes.
- Rinse with warm water. Do not shampoo.
Yoghurt and Honey
- Take 2 tbsp of Greek yoghurt in a bowl.
- Add 1 tsp of honey and squeeze in some lemon juice.
- With the help of a dye brush or a worn-out makeup brush, evenly spread this paste on your scalp.
- Make sure it reaches the roots properly.
- Let it stay for at least 30 minutes.
- Rinse with cold water.
- Repeat once a week.
Aloe Vera
- Take an Aloe stalk and scoop the pulp out of it.
- Apply this pulp on your hair and scalp.
- Let it stay for at least 45 minutes.
- Rinse with water and shampoo.
- Do this for at least 4 times every week for the best results.
- Aloe vera is my all-time favourite hair fall remedy!
Fenugreek Seeds
- This is the most effective hair fall remedy to repair hair follicles.
- Soak fenugreek seeds in water overnight.
- Once they’re soft, grind them into a paste and apply generously on your scalp and hair tips.
- Let the paste stay for at least 20 minutes.
- With the help of a shower cap, cover your head to retain the moisture.
- After 20 minutes, rinse with water and shampoo.
- Fenugreek seeds act as natural conditioners.
- The smell could be slightly wonky, so ensure that you are using a good amount of shampoo.
Neem Leaves
- Take a handful of neem leaves and boil them.
- Once they cool down, grind them into a paste.
- Apply this paste all over your scalp.
- Leave it on for 30 minutes.
- Rinse with the water that you boiled the neem leaves in.
Indian Gooseberry or Amla
- Mix the amla powder with some lemon juice.
- Massage the solution on your scalp evenly and thoroughly.
- Use a shower cap to keep the paste moist.
- Let it stay for at least 1 hour.
- Rinse with water and shampoo!
These are some of the most effective hair fall home remedies that have worked like a miracle for my once-dead tresses and they certainly have a long-lasting effect as compared to nasty chemical alternatives! Most of these remedies belong to my mother-in-law (yes, she’s the hair expert) and she keeps coming up with remedies that require natural ingredients only!
Try these out at home and do let me know which ones worked out best for you and I shall share more remedies soon!
