Dear Santa! Here’s my Christmas wishlist for my daughter!

‘Tis the season of eggnog, carols, presents, wreaths, and love!

And because we have our 1-year-old this year, the season of giving has become something of an event that we are really looking forward to!

My wife and I are Christmas connoisseurs and every year we go out of our way to decorate our house with Christmas embellishments, light up our tiny garden with dreamy fairy lights and baubles, and hang Christmas wreaths to add a little festive cheer to our front door!

This year, we took a different path, and decided to make the holiday all about our miniature Santa Claus! In the span of a year, Shayla has gone from a tiny bean to a smiling, crawling, laughing toddler who lights up my whole world after a hard, tiring day. She is the best gift I could have asked for and so she deserves nothing but the best Christmas gifts!

Here’s my curated wishlist for all parents out there looking for the perfect Christmas gift for their perfect angels!

Shape Sorter

Colourful shape sorters!
Happiness comes in all shapes and sizes!

What is it – At its most basic, this game is about sorting shapes which is nothing but simple trial and error.

Why she/he will love it – They pose quite a fun challenge for toddlers. Your child will give you the happy giggles after figuring out how to drop the pieces into their respective holes! Shape sorters eventually lead to learning about shapes and categorising them.

Stacking Toys

Stack ‘em up!

What is it – Objects of multiple sizes that children are required to stack!

Why she/he will love it – There’s just something about fitting a small object into a large one that gets toddlers going! It certainly gives Shayla a kick and works for an awesome motor skill development tool!

Push-Pull Toys

Toddler stacking his toys in a plastic trolley!
Looks like it’s gonna be a busy day at Toy Land!

What is it – Items are attached to a fixed handle like a walking trolley with blocks! This game is perfect for your toddler since he’s taken up an active interest in exploring his surroundings.

Why she/he will love it – Your little peanut is all set to explore his environment! This toy will provide the kind of balance that is required when an infant becomes a toddler and will also boost coordination and balance, thereby giving your child all the support while he embarks on his brand-new walking journey.

Musical Toys

Adorable young toddler playing a musical instrument!
Serious Beyonce vibes!

What is it – Anything from a kiddie drum set to a piano music mat will suffice!

Why she/he will love it – Making any kind of noise is always on the top of any toddler’s priority list! These gadgets also help build new pathways in children’s brains and enhances their fine and gross motor skills!

Peg Toys

Mother and her toddler playing with a peg toy!
Peg toys are our favourite pastime!

What is it – Easy-to-grasp, oversized pegs have to be stacked on pegboards to build a tower!

Why she/he will love it – Your baby’s curiosity is fueled through this game as their fine motor muscles develop gradually! Different patterns make way for a more open imagination, which toddlers have in abundance.

Toy Phones

Mother and toddler playing with a makeshift phone!
Hello Santa! Let’s talk about what a good baby I have been this year!

What is it – Not a smartphone!

Why she/he will love it – Kids love emulating their parents! Your toddler will love this as it will impart the feeling of owning a ‘Phone’ which is bound to make him happy (yeah, I can safely vouch for this).

These Christmas gift ideas are completely experience-based and extremely close to my heart. Keeping my fingers crossed for when Shayla opens them this Christmas Eve along with some delicious Christmas food!
