Baking with Kids: Top 4 Easy-Peasy Baking Recipes for Kids!

I love baking! More than a hobby, baking is like meditating for me, it is so therapeutic and transcending.

I used to experiment with a lot of pastry, brownies, and cake recipes when I just started off. Ever since my kids came along, I have had to become a pro at baking since their dessert demands are unceasing and well, I enjoy the activity thoroughly!

I initially started with a few basic chocolate recipes and later moved onto the more complicated ones (like lemon tart). What’s more fun? My kids love assisting me and playing the sous chefs in the kitchen, running around to get the ingredients in place, mixing the batter constantly, and occasionally licking the ladle itself (honestly, who doesn’t?)

My love for baking is what inspired me to write about my favourite baking recipes for kids, that are sure to hit all the right spots.

Note: I have limited the recipes in this post to chocolate only since they are the easiest to put together – come back next month for more of my epic baking recipes.

The Good Old Chocolate Cake (serves 4-5)

Chocolate cake topped with chocolate sprinkles and cocoa powder on the side
Life is too short to say no to chocolate cake!

Irrespective of the occasion, the good old chocolate cake (the universe’s greatest gift to mankind) continues to make a monthly appearance in my house and there are no left-overs, ever!

Ingredients

  • Eggs
  • Refined flour
  • Milk
  • Unsalted butter
  • Castor sugar

Recipe

  • Preheat the oven at 180C.
  • Mix 3 eggs, 130 ml of milk, 100 gm butter, 1 cup each of castor sugar and refined flour in a big mixing bowl.
  • Take extra care with the batter, make sure it gets a lot of air so that the resulting cake is soft and fluffy. It is a better idea to use a whisking spoon to beat the batter.
  • Grease the baking tray (I use an aluminium tray at home) with butter or use butter paper and sprinkle some flour before laying out the batter on it.
  • Bake for about 30 minutes and prod the centre of the cake with a fork to check if it is done!
  • Serve your hungry goblins the best chocolate cake ever.
