Stop feeding your baby bland food! 5 delicious food recipes for 8-month-old baby!

Here comes the aeroplane!

If my daughter could have spoken when she was an infant, I’m sure there would’ve been a few tantrums about the bland food I was feeding her day in, day out. But then again, I was a new mother with no experience and was under the assumption fruit and vegetable purees are all a baby should be eating. If it wasn’t for my mother who intervened and helped me discover new baby food recipes for an 8-month-old baby, Deepika would probably have been on the same diet for a very long time.

Once your baby has crossed 7-8 months, it’s time to experiment with taste and texture. I understand it is tough to figure out delicious recipes for babies that also conform to the baby food rules. But once you take the jump, it’s actually quite fun. I bring to you 5 food recipes for an 8-month-old baby that are both nutritious and delectable!

Scrambled egg yolks

Eggs are an amazing source of protein and good fat. If you are scared that your baby might be allergic to eggs, start with egg yolk initially since the yolk does not contain proteins that cause allergy. Here is a delicious egg yolk scramble recipe for babies!

Let’s get eggy!

Ingredients

  • 2 egg yolks
  • Olive oil
  • Breast milk
  • Basil
  • Pepper

Recipe

  • Crack the eggs and separate the yolk from the whites. When I used to make this recipe for Deepika, I’d use the whites later to make myself an omelette (An absolute win-win)
  • Beat the egg yolks with the breast milk.
  • Add half a teaspoon of olive oil to a warm pan.
  • Empty the egg yolk mixture to the pan and scramble until the eggs are cooked.
  • Add the chopped basil and pepper 20 seconds before you switch off the heat on the pan.

You do not have to add basil, feel free to choose your own herbs and spices.

Peanut butter bread fingers

There can’t be a better time to introduce your baby to this delicious treat- peanut butter!

An amazing treat!

Ingredients

  • White bread
  • Peanut butter

Recipe

  • Toast the bread lightly and cut it into small slices.
  • Layer peanut butter on the bread slices. I suggest using homemade peanut butter since most of the store-bought butter has a lot of sugar and additives.

Chicken stew

My daughter’s favourite recipe! This delicious stew will have your baby looking forward to feeding time!

Nutritious and tasty!

Ingredients

  • 2 Chicken thighs
  • 1 small Potato
  • ½  an Onion
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp tomato puree or paste
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Chicken broth
  • Pinch of salt and pepper

Recipe

  • Roast the chicken thigh with the skin still on for about half-hour or until it’s cooked thoroughly.
  • Once it has cooled down, remove the skin, debone the chicken and cut it into small pieces.
  • Add oil to a warm pan and cook chopped onions until they are soft.
  • Add the chicken, chopped potato, tomato puree, bay leaf, salt, pepper, garlic paste, and chicken stock to the pan with the cooked onions.
  • Cook for about 20 minutes or until the potato is cooked. Turn off the heat and remove the bay leaf.
  •  If your baby is able to chew, you can feed the stew as it is. If not, puree it.

When I used to make this for my daughter, I’d initially puree it since I was scared she’s choke. But around 12 months, I started feeding her the stew as it was, chunks and all!

Herbed fish fingers

Fish fingers for infants that even adults will enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 350 grams of skinless and boneless fish (Haddock/Pollock/Cod)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 beaten egg yolks
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp mixed herbs or herbs of your choice
  • 150 grams of breadcrumbs
  • Pepper to taste

Recipe

  • Pre-heat the oven to 180C (gas) or 200C (fan).
  • Spread olive oil on a non-stick baking sheet.
  • Mix the breadcrumbs with lemon juice, herbs, and pepper. Keep the beaten egg yolk in a separate bowl.
  • Cut the fish into strips.
  • Dip the fish strip into the egg mixture and then roll it into the breadcrumb mixture.
  • Place the fish fingers on the baking sheet.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes. The fish fingers should have a brown-golden colour to them when you take them out.

It’s very important to ensure the fish fingers are soft and free of any lumps or bones.

Cheesy pasta

This will probably be a staple in your child’s diet when they grow up. Might as well get them started on it early!
