I never gave my kids’ rooms much thought. That was until I joined the wonderful world of Pinterest. I was taken aback by all the amazing kids’ room decor ideas on the website and felt a little disappointed at how plain my kids’ rooms were. That’s when I decided to add a little character to their rooms with small changes. If you are looking for ideas to spruce up your kid’s bedroom, here are 10 fun ideas!
Colourful bedding
One of the most inexpensive ways to brighten up your kids’ room is through colourful bedding. Duvets and pillow covers in bright colours and patterns will add life to the room and if they are of the same theme as the room, even better!
A hammock
Make your child’s room one of a kind with a hammock. Who doesn’t love hammocks? If I could have one in my room without my husband thinking I’m crazy, I’d do it too! If you are not a fan of hammocks, you can always opt for a swing instead.
Unique rug
One of the best ways to make your kids room look better and cleaner is by adding a rug. My kids love the colourful rug in their rooms and take all the measures to keep it clean. Now I’m thinking I should probably carpet the entire room just so they’ll keep their rooms clean.
Complementing furniture
When it comes to furniture for kids bedrooms, most of us limit it to a bed and a desk, but there is more to it. If space isn’t a constraint, invest in some colourful furniture for your kids’ room such as a small couch, table, and chairs. Not only does it make the look more put-together but also provides them with a space to relax in other than their bed.
A private tent
I thought it was a bit absurd when my friend told me that they set up a tent in her son’s bedroom. But when I took my kids over to her place last week and saw it for myself, I realised what a fun idea it was. My kids were immediately taken by the tent and they were all inside the tent playing till we left. My friend also told me that the tent is her son’s favourite space to do his homework in too. His own little workspace apparently! Now my kids are badgering me about getting one for their room. Playdates are dangerous, y’all!
Fun bookshelf
We are ditching regular bookshelves for fun and creative ones. There are several ideas on the Internet on making your own bookshelves but if parenthood has worn you out too much to do that, you can always buy one.
Wall decals
Wall decals are another way to add some character to a plain room. They don’t cost much and are easy to use. I suggest letting your kids choose the wall decals for their room. Also, restrict it to one wall unless you want the room to look crowded and small.
Fun bed
If there is one piece of furniture you can add to your child’s room to turn it from drab to delightful, it’s a fun bed. If it wasn’t for my back problems and my husband’s sprawling sleeping positions, I’d totally trade my four-poster bed for a rocket-shaped bed. I doubt children have the same problems so they shouldn’t have any problem trading their boring beds for a fun one. If you think a bed like that is too much of an investment, you can always rent one.
Chalkboard wall
What’s better than a chalkboard? A chalkboard wall! This simple addition to your child’s room will help them display their creativity and have fun. No matter how scary your glares are, they are still going to write on the walls. So why not get a chalkboard wall where your kids can let their imagination run wild without having to fear a time-out? Fun for them and peace of mind for you.
Hobby decor
Add a little workshop corner in your child’s bedroom where they can pursue their hobbies or interest. Whether your child likes painting, gaming, drawing, or just reading, create a cosy nook in the bedroom where they can pursue their hobbies. This will also ensure they spend less time on TV.
