Have you ever looked at a child and had to suppress an intense urge to steal their outfit? Well, it happens to me a couple of times a week. Kids clothes are incredibly fashionable and fun, so it’s no surprise that a 26-year-old like me would want to mimic their style. Here are 5 kids fashion trends that pretty much every adult would want to mimic!
Tutu skirts
If there is one piece of clothing I can borrow from little girls, this would be it. A tutu skirt is a wardrobe staple for every little girl. Even if your girl prefers the comfort of jeans or shorts to skirts, I bet she will make an exception for a tutu skirt. There is something absolutely magical about this fluffy skirt that makes the person wearing it feel like they hail from the land of fairies and unicorns. If I could wear tutu skirts without getting judgemental stares, you can bet your bottom dollar that I’d have a tutu skirt in every colour.
Cute headbands
Kids have the cutest headbands and hair accessories and no one can argue with that. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the polka dot and tropical head wraps sold by every fast-fashion brand. But I’d totally trade them for headbands with animal ears or hair clips with big glittery butterflies. The only times I get to wear this cute headgear is when I’m prepping my skin and pretending to be a beauty blogger in front of my bathroom mirror.
Embellished Mary Janes
My favourite pair of shoes while growing up was a pair of red mary janes my parents got me after watching “Wizard of Oz”. I wore them all the time and even after the soles started wearing off. My mother had to finally take away the battered pair of beauties because I just wouldn’t stop wearing them. The adult version of mary janes is nowhere as cute as the ones they make for kids. So fashion companies, if you are listening, please know that there are adults who’d be more than happy to pay for a pair of glittery flat mary jane shoes.
Fun onesie
Another clothing item I’m scheming on stealing… err… borrowing from my niece’s closet is a panda onesie, complete with two black pom-poms for ears. I mean why would I want to sleep in satin nightgowns or pyjamas (which don’t exactly expand enough to provide space for my midnight-snack filled tummy) over a comfy animal-themed onesie?
LED shoes
These shoes gave us the status of ‘cool kid’ in school. Just because we are adults it doesn’t mean we want to stop being cool. Maybe a pair of LED shoes will brighten up our Mondays or set the mood for Friday nights. We’d totally ditch our pumps and oxfords for a pair of light-up sneakers!
