Getting rid of skin tan is not an easy task. Every time we go on a beach trip, we come back with such evident tan lines on our faces, hands, and legs too. There was a time when I was ignorant about skin tan until I went on my first beach trip. Ever since, I make sure I carry lots of sunscreen but end up getting a tan nevertheless.
Thankfully, there are several de-tan home remedies you can prepare with simple ingredients available in your kitchen or your home garden. Here are a few homemade remedies I have tried and can vouch for.
1. Aloe vera and lemon
Aloe vera does wonders to your hair and skin. No wonder we find so many aloe vera-based creams, gels and organic shampoos too! You can try aloe vera and lemon juice to get rid of your skin tan.
Take an aloe vera leaf and slit it. Remove the pulp into a bowl and squeeze about half a lemon in the bowl. Rub this mixture on your face and other tanned areas. Leave it on for about 20 minutes and rinse.
2. Sugar and lemon
Sugar makes for a great home-made scrub when used in combination with lemon or honey. For tan removal, sugar and lemon will do the trick. The sugar will help exfoliate the skin and the citric acid in lemon will help with the tan.
Mix sugar and lemon juice in a small bowl. Apply the mixture on the tanned areas on your skin and srub it lightly in a circular motion. Let it dry on your skin for about 20 minutes and then rinse it off.
3. Milk and turmeric
These two ingredients are easily available at home and work as a great de-tan agent when combined together. The lactic acid in the milk helps get rid of tan as well as moisturises the skin. The turmeric has a healing effect and leaves the skin glowing.
Mix half a spoon of turmeric powder with milk and apply it on your face and any other tanned area. Leave it on for 20 minutes until it dries and then wash it off.
4. Sandalwood
Sandalwood has been a go-to ingredient for all skin-related issues from time immemorial. Thus, it is a great anti-tan element that also cures your acne, if any.
Simple apply sandalwood paste on your face like a face pack and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Rinse your face to notice the difference. You can also use it on tanned areas apart from your face.
5. Honey and rose water
Honey is a miracle ingredient for the hair as well as skin. Even a one-time use can leave your face feeling soft and your hair silky and smooth.
Add a dash of rose water to honey and apply the pack on your face and other tanned areas. Leave it on for about 20 minutes and then wash it off.
Before you use any of these remedies, make sure you wash your face with a good face scrub or face wash. For your hands and legs, you could use a body wash. Apply the pack after you have washed and dried it. If you have a stubborn tan, you will have to repeat the packs two or three times a week to see a visible difference.
If you’ve got a tan, try any of these de-tan remedies and let me know if they worked for you!
