10 unique indoor games for kids that guarantee an amazing birthday party!

Kids take their birthdays very seriously and so should you. Planning the perfect kids birthday party is every parent’s dream but it is not always easy. While alluring decorations and delicious food are important elements of a birthday party, it’s fun and quirky birthday party games that will make the party one to not forget. We bring to you a collection of the top ten unique indoor birthday games for kids that are bound to make your little one’s party a huge success! 

Pin the horn!

This game is best suited for kids between the ages of 4-10 and is a variation of ‘pin the tail on the donkey’.

Prepping for the game:

  • Take a large printout of a unicorn and paint over the horn on the picture.
  • Paste the picture on a poster board.
  • Print out unicorn horns or draw and cut out unicorns from felt or construction paper.
  • Write the names of the players on the unicorn horn cutouts.
  • Keep some double-sided tape aside.

How to play the game:

  • Choose a player and blindfold them. Place a piece of double-sided tape on the back of the contestant’s copy of the unicorn horn and hand it over to the player.
  • Guide the player towards the poster and let the player try to pin the horn correctly on the picture.
  • Once everyone is done playing, check the name on the horn that’s at the right spot or closest to the right spot and declare them the winner.

Pinata with a twist!

This version of balloon pinata is a bit different from the regular one and there is more to win than just chocolate here.

Prepping for the game:

  • Fill the balloon with confetti, a toy, and chocolates. 
  • Tie the balloon up on a clothesline outside or hang it low from the ceiling or doorframe.
  • We suggest you hang it far away from the TV, computer, or anything you don’t want to be broken.

How to play the game:

  • Blindfold the kids and give them a plastic bat. If the bat is too blunt, you can use a stick.
  • Take them near the pinata, spin them once and let them have a swing at the pinata. Each player gets one swing.
  • Whoever manages to burst the balloon, gets the prize inside.

You can also play another version of the pinata where every kid gets to hit a different balloon with each balloon containing either a chocolate or a toy. This way every guest gets to win something.

Glow ring toss!

This game is perfect for evening birthday parties and is best played with lights down or dimmed out.

Prepping for the game:

  • Place chocolates, books, toys, and other prizes at a distance from each other on a table.
  • Get a glow necklace.

How to play the game:

  • Every child gets two chances to throw the glow necklace ring on the table. The contestant wins whatever the ring lands on.

Jelly animals!

This game involves two things every child loves- toys and jelly!

Prepping for the game:

  • Prepare individual bowls of jelly with small animal figurines hidden in the jelly.

How to play the game:

  • Place bowls of jelly in front of the children and tie their hands behind their backs.
  • The participants have to pick the animal out of the jelly by eating through the jelly.
  • The first one to get the animal out without using their hands wins.

**We suggest not using tiny figurines as the little ones might end up swallowing them during the game.

Noodling it!

This game of pasta is fun and easy. This is best suited for kids between 4-8 years of age.

Prepping for the game:

  • Place pieces of penne pasta on a plate.
  • Place uncooked spaghetti pasta on another plate.
  • Empty bowls.
  • Have a timer handy.

How to play the game:

  • The kids are supposed to use the spaghetti to pick up pieces of penne pasta and transfer them to the bowl one by one. The kids have to use their mouths to pick up the pasta and can’t use their hands.
  • The player with the most number of penne pieces in their bowl by the end of two minutes wins.

Pop it!

This balloon game is loud, incredibly fun, and will have everyone laughing!

Prepping for the game:

  • Blow the balloons (balloons the same number as participants).
  • String.

How to play the game:

  • Tie the balloon to the participant’s leg. The goal is to burst others’ balloons by stomping while protecting your own. The last participant with their balloon intact wins the game.

Prepping for the game:

  • A playlist of songs.

How to play the game:

  • Get the kids to gather around. Shout out the name of an animal before playing the song. The participants have to dance when the music plays but as soon as the music stops, they have to pretend to be the animal that was announced before the music.
  • The host gets to decide the winner based on whose act was the best.

The kidnapped puppy!

This game will bring out the detective in your child and their friends.

Can you crack the case?

Prepping for the game:

  • Write a story about a kidnapped puppy.
  • Make chits with clues (two sets).
  • Hide clues all around the house which will eventually lead to a hidden soft toy puppy.

How to play the game:

  • Tell the children the story about the kidnapped puppy and ask them to be the detectives.
  • Divide the group into two teams. Hand over the clues to both teams.
  • The team which finishes the scavenger hunt first and finds the puppy wins the game.

Stringy food!

This game will have the children roaring with laughter as they try to eat a doughnut!

  • Hang a doughnut on a string and suspend it from a high place.

How to play the game:

  • Tie the participant’s hands behind their back. The goal of the game is for the participant to eat the hanging doughnut without using their hands.
  • Whoever manages to finish the doughnut in the least amount of time wins the game.

Determine the smartest in the group with this fun game!

Prepping for the game:

  • Place 20 random things on a table (Box, soft toy, book, etc).
  • Hand over a paper and pen to every kid.

How to play the game:

  • Allow the participants to take a look at the things on the table for 30 seconds.
  • Take them away and ask them to note down the names of the things on the table.
  • The person who gets the most number of things right wins the game.
